The New B&Q

The New B&Q!

I Hate

I popped over to the new B&Q in Kirkcaldy this evening.

It’s huge and it took me ages to find anything - no helpful staff around. All I could hear at regular intervals was the computerised voice of a woman constantly asking someone to do something - I had no idea what this was but it was very annoying. I then went to pay and found that all the tills were closed and I had to use the self service tills - this is when it came apparent where the computerised voice was coming from.

Instead of sitting at the tills and serving people, there was one B&Q member of staff helping customers use the self service tills which shouted commands at you. It was an incredibly unpleasant experience. I like to deal with people, not machines and when I go into a shop I expect to be served by people. I don’t expect to go in and do their job for them by serving myself.

Not sure I’ll bother with that branch of B&Q again and instead drive the extra distance to the store in Dunfermline next time.

Sorry - But you are going to have to get used to it. B&Q have cut hours on checkouts by an average of 120 hours per store. All stores are getting these machines - 1 operator will man 4 self service tills and oversee the customers. They have been instructed to not open a till but direct customers through these machines. Cost cutting!! - DONT blame the staff or Managers in the stores - This has come from their head office.

Well I think it’s a shame that humans are being dispensed with. I would much prefer to be served by a person than have to deal with a machine and if every B&Q is going to replace their staff with machines, then I’ll have to start shopping at Focus or Homebase instead.

dear mr b&q must write and tell you of the very unpleasant experience i had when i went shopping at your york store this morning.some bright spark (mayby sat behind a desk?)has decided to close down all the tills bar one and install 8 self service tills, result utter chaos, afraid a lot of very unhappy customers.these tills are ok in the right environment IE food supermarket.it is pretty clear that this idea has not been though through.try humping a bag of sand,a bag of cement, and several lengths of timber 2.4 mts long on to the small scale provided.when i go shopping i pay for service, i expect service not a diy pay system.please get this sorted,if this is a cost cutting exercise forget it,it aint working.if i do go to your store again i certainly wont be useing these diy tills and if they are the only option forget it i will let my feet do the talking.
