I love giving stuff away for free and this week have given away a pond full of plants!

We inherited a large neglected pond with this house when we moved in last year and just haven’t had the time to tend to it. It’s offered a few amusing moments - I’ve fallen in it a couple of times when trying to remove netting and our friend Pete also fell into it one night whilst out in the garden having a smoke. But I also found a load of large dead fish in it which the previous owner must have forgotten about which wasn’t pleasant.

Anyway this year we decided to fill the pond in and regain the land and put a lawn down instead. So I spent all of last weekend pulling out huge heavy clumps of iris’s and other plants and advertised them on Freecycle. A day or so later lots of happy people took away the plants to stock their own ponds and I was left happy in the knowledge that my lovely plants will be looked after and cherished for years to come.

We kept a few of the iris’s to put into a small water trough we’re making out of an existing bench, so can’t wait to start on that project and get it done before the plants come into bloom.
